Eve, Adam, and the Garden of Earthly Delights

2007 – 2010

The title refers to the Creation myth from the book of Genesis in the Christian Bible. In the story of Adam and Eve the polarities of ‘female’ and ‘male’ are depicted as the natural order for human beings.

This series of photographs portrays some of the many different gender and sexual identities that are in use today, contradicting the idea that the two-sexes/two-genders system is the only way of being, and proposing that all human beings are equally natural - that we are all ‘earthly delights’.

Furthermore, these photographs show that sex and gender identities are not always visible or readable, that boundaries can be fluid or flexible, and that things are not always what they seem.

C-type colour photographs. 16 photographs in the series.
