FOR LEOPOLD. INSTALLATION OF 10 VIDEOS
For this installation I made identical reproductions of photographs from the family album. The work was created when I began to burn the photographs.
Some of the photographs are of family members who disappeared or were murdered in the Holocaust. I was aware I was unable to control the fire, in a way similar to the photographic bleach used in Looking for Leo and Kinderfest, but here it was more extreme, more dangerous.
The videos were made as the photographs burned, proceeding slowly until ash is all that is left. Leopold was the name of my grandfather. He disappeared in the Holocaust.
